Thoughts on Being Thrown in the Middle of Nowhere
August 28, 2008 5:22 am My Notebook, WhimsicalThe Amazing Race Asia 3 is just about to start! It really gives me the creeps sometimes, how teams get thrown in the middle of nowhere with strange people and even stranger cultures. But, of course, this is the essence of any “adventure”, to get a bit uncomfortable and react accordingly. That’s probably the reason why all revius contestants, after they have been forced to live out of their comfort zones for a while, tell the camera right after… “This is the best adventure of my life! I found myself and my partner’s strengths through this race” or something similar.
Still, a big city can be intimidating. Maybe my idea of an adventure in new york isn’t riding a public bus and getting confused at a strange map, but rather getting on board one of my sponsor’s buses, charter bus nyc ,and just enjoying the view… perfectly content that the whole tour group is going somewhere that’s pre-determined as a part of a simple itinerary.
Lol. Yeah, I know. It isn’t much of an adventure, but it’s better than spending the whole day following reed thin lines on a street map, or asking equally confused tourists about which building is which, or more eerily, looking for a vacant phone cubicle to call 911. “Please help a lost tourist” … ![]()
